So first of all, a quick catch up…
In case you missed it yesterday, Arsenal somehow collected their first trophy of the season after losing 2-1 against the Spanish side Sevilla in the Emirates Cup. Sevilla who won their opening match of the tournament on Saturday, 1-0 against Red Bull Leipzig finished the tournament unbeaten, but still finished as runners-up to Arsenal, in one of the great sporting miscarriages of justice.
The trophy was eventually awarded to a sheepish-looking Per Mertesacker, who collected it on behalf of the Gooners, by virtue of the London-side having scored the most goals. Arsenal who won their opening match on Saturday 5-2 against the Portuguese side Benfica, finished on 9 points (3 points for the win, and 1 point for each of the 6 goals they scored). Sevilla meanwhile, also ended up on 9 points (6 points for their 2 wins, plus 3 points for the 3 goals they mustered). After a count-back on goals scored, Arsenal were awarded the trophy, and after the match Sevilla players turned to twitter to vent their frustration, and the bullshit rules.
Minutes after the game, Sevilla’s French striker Wissam Ben Yedder posted the following message:
Ganamos 2/2 pero somos no primeros 🤔🙄 … Devuelvanos la copa @Arsenal Ahaha 😂😂😂 #EmiratesCup

Roughly translated, this means.
What the f**k? We won 2 out of 2, but they still gave the cup to Arsenal? What a s**t show. LOL
As quick as a flash, Arsenal supporter, and punctuation hater @ffsharry responded to Ben Yedder in a completely fair, balanced and reasonable way, calling the Frenchman a “Toulouse reject baguette shagging dwarf”

But back came Ben Yedder, reminding @ffsharry that there was only one team in next season’s Champions League, and it wasn’t the Gunners!
😂😂 Ahahah dont be mad bro you may get your revenge in Champions Le…… Oh wait 🙊🙈 https://t.co/HvDddKhBzU

They may not have won the Emirates Cup, but Sevilla certainly won both the battle on and off the pitch.
Ole!
