Mario Balotelli bites back at Brendan Rodgers over awards joke

The Italian striker doesn’t seem happy with his former boss…

It appears a sly dig from Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has not gone down at all well with his former striker Mario Balotelli.

Rodgers, who brought the Italian to Anfield in 2014, had a jovial pop at Balotelli during Celtic’s end-of-season awards night when asked by a fan who was the best player he’d ever coached.

After considering the questions for a few seconds, the former Liverpool boss sarcastically responded by saying: “Mario Balotelli, he was a fantastic player.”

His light-hearted answer was widely reported to be an insult to Balotelli, who was regarded as one of the worst signings Rodgers made during his time on Merseyside – only scoring once in 16 games under the Northern Irishman.

The Italian has since found his feet at Nice this season after arriving there via AC Milan, netting 14 times in 24 appearances for the French outfit.

He’s not seen the funny side of the joke and hit back at the comments from Rodgers on his Twitter account today.

Not to be out done in the sarcasm stakes, Balotelli tweeted: “Brendan Rodgers you are also the best manager I ever had. Amazing.”

You can see the tweet for yourself below and you’d have to believe the emojis relieve how the Italian really feels about what his former managers said.

This one could run and run…
