Stupid Punt: One punter fancies Ireland to feel the clap at 400/1

Here are our punters' latest wild wagers on Ireland v Iceland in International friendly action...

Stephen Ward to score first and Ireland to win 4-0 – 750/1

  • Burnley’s Stephen Ward has only scored three international goals in 41 caps, but one punter from Meath fancies him to melt the Icelandic defence with the opening strike on Tuesday.
  • Ward has only scored one international goal since 2011. That coming in the pre-Euro 2016 warm-up with Belarus at Turners Cross in Cork last May.
  • Ireland did win their last friendly game 4-0 against Oman (our favourite opponents) in August.

Gylfi Sigurdsson to net first and a 3-3 draw – 425/1

  • Swansea’s star man is actually a great shout to score first against Ireland at 8/1 tomorrow night, thanks to another sparkling season in the Premier League with nine goals to his name.
  • He also scored as recently as March 24 for his country, netting in Iceland’s 2-1 away victory over Kosovo in Group I.
  • One crafty customer in Cork not only believes Sigurdsson will score first, but he’s also calling for a 3-3 score-fest. To put that in prospective, the last 3-3 draw involving Ireland took place in October 1991 under Jack Charlton against Poland in a qualifier for Euro 92.

Iceland to win 4-3 – 400/1

  • To be fair to his bet, Iceland are no strangers to having goals galore in their games of late. They’ve been involved in three games ending 3-2 inside the last year – winning two of them.
  • A punter in Monaghan is hunting another taxing night for the scoreboard on Tuesday by predicting a seven-goal thriller at the Aviva. Iceland’s last contest involving seven strikes was a 5-2 loss to France in the Euro 2016 quarter-final.
  • However, Martin O’Neill’s Ireland have only conceded four or more goals once in his entire reign at the helm for Ireland. That was a 5-1 defeat at the hands of Portugal at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey in June 2014.
