Leicester City’s sacking of title winning manager Claudio Ranieri has sent shockwaves through the football world and the local newspaper has summed up peoples’ feelings perfectly with a front page for the ages.
Ranieri led The Foxes to the Premier League title last season in what’s described as ‘the greatest story ever told’, when it comes to football. However, despite great success for the club in the Champions League, the club’s terrible domestic form saw him unceremoniously dumped on Thursday.
Pundits and fans have been queuing up around the block to blame the board and the players for Ranieri’s removal, especially after their mini-fightback at Sevilla on Wednesday.
Yesterday we told you how Ranieri’s fellow Italian and former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is the 11/2 favourite to take over as Leicester boss. He’s followed in the market by Alan Pardew at 6/1 and former Foxes manager Nigel Pearson, who’s 15/2 to return to the hot seat.
But for now, football fans around the world are just upset at Ranieri’s departure and those feelings are reflected perfectly by the front page of today’s Leicester Mercury. The paper simply used a picture of Claudio with the Premier League trophy and the beautiful words of his heart-breaking statement to create a tear jerking tribute to the man – check it out below:
