Hotshot Jackpot Villain of the Week: Romelu Lukaku… Again

If you ever need a man to let you down, look no further than Romelu...

It was a tough week for backers of the Hotshot Jackpot. The favourites to score anytime seemed not to want to comply – Zlatan, we’re looking at you – and Romelu Lukaku woke up to the news that he has, once again, become a let down.

The highest amount of players anyone managed to predict this week was six out of eight, with just a handful of players managing to do that. All of our top three highest-selected players (Romelu Lukaku, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Harry Kane) failed to score, despite none of their team’s losing over the weekend.

A whopping 76% of Jackpot punters had selected Romelu Lukaku to do the business against Crystal Palace on Saturday. It looked as though Big Sam may have been able to hold Everton to a goalless draw until Seamus Coleman found the net in the 87th minute. The goal received a chorus of his chant, “60 grand, 60 grand, Seamus Coleman…”

Just 56 people correctly predicted the Irishman would score. Meanwhile, Lukaku was missing chances for fun, including a particularly excruciating header which bounced off the top of the net and left our Jackpot chasers in a heap on the sofa.

Those who managed to nail down six correct scorers all were confident that Wayne Rooney would break the record against Stoke this weekend, which he did in the dying moments of the game with a beautifully taken free-kick. Just one shrewd punter selected Erik Pieters to find the net against Manchester United.

It’s not the first time the Big Belgian has let down Jackpot hopefuls, and he did so this week with 76% of all selections riding on him. We can’t get on his back too much though, as he was also the man to inspire our first ever Premier League HSJP win.

It’s FA Cup weekend which means the Jackpot will take a break. Click here to get involved when the league fixtures return…
