Stupid Punt: This 4000/1 shot says Gary Cahill will be the star man in England v Spain

Here are our punters' latest wild wagers on the International friendly...

Gary Cahill to score first and England to win 5-2, 4000/1

  • Cahill made his first England appearance in September 2010 as a second-half substitute for Michael Dawson. Since then, he has made 51 appearances scoring a total of four goals. In fact, he bagged one in the Three Lions’ victory over Scotland last weekend, his first in two years.
  • Since these two sides first met in 1929, there has never been a 5-2 result for either side. However, England have beat the Spaniards 4-2 on two occasions, most recently in February 1987.
  • The last time both sides scored in this meeting was that game in 1987, since then, England have won just twice. Most recently was at Wembley in 2011, when Fabio Capello fielded Phil Jones at Number 10. Unreal.

England v Spain to draw 4-4, 350/1

  • In 24 meetings between these sides, there have only been two draws. The last instance was in the 1996 Euros, where England eventually went through to the semi-finals on penalties. David Seaman and Stuart Pearce were considered the shoot-out heroes, with Seaman saving Miguel Nadal’s shot and Pearce finding the net after missing against Germany six years earlier.
  • The only time there has been eight goals in this meeting was in 1931, only the second time the two sides had met. It was an international friendly at Highbury. Since the 1996 Euros, the highest scoring game was a 3-0 England win at Wembley in 2001. This fixture saw a goal from no-other than Emile Heskey.

England to beat Spain 7-0, 500/1

  • It has taken 11 games – not including the penalty shoot-out in ’96 – for England to find the net seven times against Spain. Since 2001, they have only managed to bag four goals against them.
  • In September 2015, Roy Hodgson’s side managed to put six past minnows San Marino. The goals came from Wayne Rooney, Ross Barkley, Theo Walcott, Harry Kane and an own goal. It would be interesting to see them put the same amount against Spain!
