Could Jose Mourinho be hinting at a new position for Paul Pogba?

He has failed to impress at Old Trafford so far and Mourinho thinks a change of roles could be the answer...

In a truly unexpected turn of events, Mourinho has suggested that he may have found a new position for the world’s most expensive footballer.

Manchester United broke the record to acquire the midfielder on a five-year deal from Juventus in the summer. He came with the promise of speed, strength and goals. At the moment, the Frenchman has failed to impress and impatient fans are already calling for his pattern-adorned head.

With every issue there is always a solution, and The Special one believes the 23-year-old could evolve into a “phenomenal central defender.”

Speaking to Sky Sports news, he said: “With the quality of his pass, with his aerial game, with his agility in such a big body, for his defensive side of the game, coming from the back with the ball, he would be a phenomenal central defender, too.”

Eric Bailly picked up a knee injury against Chelsea which will put him out of action for roughly two months. Most fans were expecting a defensive restructure to cope with the loss of the new signing, who has looked impressive in the opening weeks of the season. Perhaps bringing Luke Shaw back on the left and moving Daley Blind back into a central position, allowing Timothy Fosu-Mensash some first-team game time or even a starting place for Marcus Rojo. Shivers.

As Manchester United host their local rivals at Old Trafford tonight, could we see a centre-back debut from Pogba?

What do you think?
