Watch as Norwegian pundits fall to pieces as tiny San Marino score against them

You wouldn’t see this on Soccer Saturday

One of the few brighter moments of last night’s dour international fixtures came at the hands of one of European football’s whipping boys, San Marino.

Their only ever victory in international football was against fellow minnows Liechtenstein in a 2004 friendly. The countries record is so bad that they have a ‘list of matches the San Marino team did not lose’ section on their Wikipedia page.

Since taking part in their first official competitive game in 1990, the Sammarinese have failed to capture a single win in either European Championships or World Cup qualifying and last night that didn’t change, but something magical did happen.

Trailing 1-0 away to Norway in Oslo, Mattia Stefanelli sent his teammates and probably the entire population (33,000) of the little mountainous enclave into hysteria by belting a 54th minute strike into the top corner.

Just look what it means to them!

It’s easy to see why the Sammarinese lost their minds after scoring, the goal was only their second in 15 years away from home in qualifying.

Of course, there’s always another side to the coin and hilarious footage from Norwegian TV has emerged of a football show’s pundits being utterly horrified as the goal went in.

The disgust and total shame on their faces is clear as Stefanelli goal hits the back of the net, check it out below:

All the best football punts are on

The hosts needn’t have worried however, as Norway went on to secure the tie 4-1 in the end.

However, having seen San Marino lose Davide Gualtieri’s record for the fastest in World Cup qualifying history (against England in 199) to Christian Benteke yesterday, it was nice to see them end the week on a high.

Keep on trucking guys, that win will come!

To be fair, they did score more goals than England, Scotland and Northern Ireland combined last night!

What do you think?
