Hotshot Jackpot Villain of the Week: Romelu Lukaku

The Big Belgian let down thousands of Jackpot punters this week, as he failed to find the net against Bournemouth

After being won for two consecutive weeks, Hotshot customers were quietly confident they could do us again for the £250k pot.

The majority of punters probably felt like they had a banker in Belgian Romelu Lukaku. A recent Jackpot hero, netting two customers their share of £325k as he found the net against Sunderland.

In fact, he had rattled up four goals in two games before his then-unbeaten side Everton embarked on the long journey down south to Bournemouth and found the net 25 times in all competitions last year.

Prior to the game, The Cherries had won just one game this campaign, conceding nine goals in the process. After all, Artur Boruc conceded the third most goals last season, a grand total of 52.

So, it is easy to see why our HSJP punters didn’t bat an eyelid when selecting Lukaku last weekend. All the signs pointed to the Big Belgian, who was just 7/5 to score anytime prior to the game.

He let down a whopping 65% of players. Romelu, hang your head in shame, you’re our Villain of the Week! It clearly wasn’t meant to be this week. Perhaps he will have more luck at Goodison Park for Friday Night Football. The Toffees play host to Crystal Palace.

  • Lukaku had a free header from a Ross Barkley kick after just 10 minutes, which landed straight into the hands of Boruc. He then did not attempt a shot until the 84th minute, he shot from 25 yards out, only to be blocked before reaching the edge of the area.
  • He touched the ball just 26 times during the game. Kevin Mirallas was the only starting player on the pitch to have fewer touches.
  • Junior Stanislas scored the only goal of the game at the 23-minute mark. He also scored Bournemouth’s 98th-minute equaliser in the corresponding fixture last November.
  • Before the game, the The Cherries’ defence had kept just one clean sheet in their previous 14 matches.

The Jackpot boasts a tantalising £250k pot this week. Simply pick eight Premier League goal scorers in the eight selected matches and you could be collecting the prize come Monday.
