Hotshot Jackpot Winner: “I thought I was only on for £25!”

Hotshot Jackpot winners react to £250,000 windfall

Birthday presents, retirement plans, and a few 'little surprises'

We ask the lucky punters what they'll do with their windfall

For Stoke City supporters – and, in particular, beleaguered boss Mark Hughes – their stoppage-time strike against Crystal Palace was little more than a consolation.

But two punters were celebrating that seemingly meaningless goal like crazy – as it helped them to win cheques for £125,000 from Paddy Power.

The lucky duo will share a mammoth £250,000 through the bookmaker’s free-to-play Hotshot Jackpot game, where you have to predict eight Premier League goal-scorers over a weekend’s action.

It’s the second weekend in succession that the jackpot has been won.

Each of the winners had Arnautovic to score and, though it couldn’t stop his side losing 4-1, it was a winner for our gents – even though one of them thought it was only for £25!

Malcolm, 62, is retired and from Kildare. He said: “I didn’t think I’d won because of Christian Eriksen not playing. Even when I went online, I still thought I’d finished second or something.

“So when I got the call from Paddy Power, I assumed it was to tell me I’d won £25, which I was quite happy with – so you can imagine my shock when I was told it was actually for £125,000.

“What am I going to do with the money? Count it! It’ll take me long enough.

“I don’t know, really, yet but I’m certainly planning one or two surprises for my friends and family.”

While the windfall was good timing for our other winner – Paul, 57, a dentist from Preston.

He said: “I’ve been playing Hotshot Jackpot every week of the season with my son, but it was only really on Sunday night that I remembered about my entry.

“I knew I had a couple of the scorers right, so thought I’d log in to check them – and couldn’t believe when I realised that I’d won.

“I’m a few years off retirement, so it’ll be nice to have some money behind us.

“I also have twins who turn 21 tomorrow (Tuesday), so that’ll sort out their birthday presents.

“I’m a Preston season-ticket holder, but also support Manchester United.

“It was tough backing a City player to score, but it’s nice that they’ve helped me to win this jackpot.”

Spokesman Paddy Power added: “These two chaps are lucky that Arnautovic didn’t pack up and go home during Stoke’s latest pasting.

“Congratulations to both – and here’s to our next hotshot jackpot winners.”
