This week is one of our favourites in the calendar year. We’ve got the European Championships in the football, test rugby, the US Open golf and of course, Royal Ascot. There’s a bit of cricket and darts as well, but none of us really care about that.
We had out suit pressed and our ties prepared. Paddy Power were all set to enjoy the week of racing at the famous course. A bit of rain didn’t dampen the spirits at all, because we were full of other spirits. For the second time in two days, he was paying out big time.

He started off with the Albany Stakes and Brave Anna won for A P O’Brien at odds of 18/1. Next came Across the Stars in the King Edward Stakes half an hour later at odds of 12/1. Kinema burst clear in the final furlong of the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes at a price of 12/1, before Sword Fighter’s victory at 25/1 (with an SP of 33/1) rounded off a fantastic day for the Dubliner. Having been a PP customer since 2003, we were not only in awe of the punter’s win, but it made us feel a little gooey inside as well. The kind of feeling you get watching a star player flop against your team, or when you read that Roy Hodgson’s changed formation.
