Andy Gray: It may not be the most exciting final but you can cash in with this 13/2 Manchester United bet

Martial Arts

Manchester United v Crystal Palace, Saturday 5.30pm, BBC 1/BT Sports

It would be great to see a repeat of the 3-3 FA Cup final between Manchester United and Crystal Palace from 1990 but that was Ian Wright’s final. He came on as a substitute and lit the game up and the rest is history as far as the fabulous career he went on to have.

This game doesn’t look like it’s going to be a high-scoring thriller. I don’t think Palace are going to take the game to United at all. They’ll be happy to sit back and frustrate Martial, Rooney and Rashford. Alan Pardew will be happy to frustrate United and look to hit them on the counter-attack with the pace of Puncheon and Zaha. That’s the danger for United, getting caught on the counter-attack but I still really fancy United. They’re finishing the season strongly and they look in good form. They beat Bournemouth comfortably on Tuesday night and came through with a clean bill of health, no injuries. Louis Van Gaal can put his team out with confidence and I fancy them to win this game 2-0.

  • I’m not surprised that Wayne Rooney is the favourite to score first at Wembley. There’s a debate on an almost daily basis as to whether he should start for England or not and I think that’s put Wayne under unnecessary pressure but I think he’s the kind of guy who will respond to it. Because he’s playing for more than just a cup final win and because he’s captain and because he score midweek I’m not surprised he’s top of the market.

I’d actually be looking to put my money on Marcus Rashford or Anthony Martial for the opening goal because I think Wayne will be playing a little deeper than normal and might not get in as many goal scoring positions as he’s used to. Don’t discount Mata if he starts, he’s a decent price and well worth a flutter but it’s one of Rashford or Martial for me and if I had to choose one I’d put my money on Martial.
