Leicester v Everton: The Champions are coming home, and here’s why they’re worth backing to get a result against the Toffees

Despite a week of celebrations, the newly crowned Premier League champions are worth siding with against an Everton side in woeful form

The history book says stick with the Foxes

Leicester v Everton, Saturday 5.30pm, Sky Sports 1

Leicester City are Premier League champions – and no matter how often you hear it, it still sounds incredibly strange. Tottenham’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday night meant that Claudio Ranieri’s side were officially crowned champs, and you have to have deep pockets if you want to be in the King Power Stadium for the Foxes’ triumphant final home game of the campaign.

But are they worth backing to pick up another three points? There’s very much two lines of thought here…

Firstly you’re the person who has seen the photos from Jamie Vardy’s house party on Monday night. You’ve seen the blurry eyes from a few of the players on Sky Sports this week and you’ve heard that Wes Morgan strolled into a local Weatherspoons and spent £250-odd on a load of Jagerbombs.

You’ve also seen this frankly superb video of the Foxes’ captain celebrating the title…

All of this makes you think that Everton are a monster price at , particularly as the Toffees have only lost three on the road this season and have performed notably better away from Goodison Park.

Or you’re on the other side of the fence. Leicester have made history in the most remarkable fashion this season. They’ve overcome odds of 5,000/1 to win the title, and in their final home game the players will want to go out on their high and keep the party going with a win.

There will be a mind-blowing atmosphere inside the stadium on Saturday night and no doubt the celebrations will be in full swing.

The Foxes can give their fans another win (they’ve only lost once this season at the King Power) and therefore a shades of odds-on at is a great price for the champs.

So which side of the fence is the right one?

We dug through the Premier League history books to try to get a handle on where our money should go – and the conclusion is not to go against the Foxes!

  • There have been 39 dead rubbers featuring the champions in 23 Premier League seasons
  • The champions win rate is 48.7 per cent, and they’ve lost just 25.6 per cent
  • Those figures get even better when the champions are at home, with the win rate rising to 52.6 per cent, and the loss rate falling to 15.8 per cent

Based on the history book – and Leicester’s current form, the smart money seems to be with the returning Jamie Vardy and co. The Foxes are on a 10 game unbeaten run, while Everton have only won one of the last eight in the league.

If you still think is a touch too skinny for your liking – it’s for Leicester to win and Jamie Vardy to score at anytime. Before politely telling a referee to move aside, Vardy had scored five goals in five games for club and country, and no doubt he’ll be keen to add to his 12 goals at the King Power this season. He’s still got an outside squeak to win the Golden Boot and if that’s not motivation enough, we don’t know what is.

The champions are coming home, and they can sign off with all three points.

What do you think?
