Andy Gray: Liverpool need to be at their best against Dortmund and they could go through on penalties at 30/1

Liverpool v Borussia Dortmund, Thursday 8.05pm, BT Sports

This will be a proper European night and I think the winner of this tie will fancy winning the tournament. They’ll certainly become favourites in the betting.

Again it’s much like the Paris St Germain and Manchester City game, Borussia Dortmund will arrive at Anfield confident they can win there. Just as they did against Tottenham at White Hart Lane but they’re going to find things tougher at Anfield. Depending on which Liverpool side shows up. That’s the problem with Liverpool for me, when they’re good they’re very good but they can throw in the odd bad one and that’s the worry.

  • Liverpool to win the Europa League at
  • Borussia Dortmund to win the Europa League at
  • This is another one that could go to extra time, it could finish 1-1 and we could be looking at penalties. That’s who close this game is and it’s a difficult one for me to predict.

  • 1-1 Draw at
  • Liverpool to qualify after a penalty shoot-out at
  • If Liverpool turn up and play as well as we’ve seen them of late I think they can win the match but they definitely have to be at their best. If not then players like Mkhitaryan, Reus and Aubameyang will punish them.

I have to stick with Liverpool and say that I think they’ll win and go through, I’d like to think that but I wouldn’t be surprised if Dortmund did a number on them because the German side are that good.

Jurgen Klopp has good options at the moment but it looks as though Divock Origi might play ahead of Daniel Sturridge. He would be the one you’d look at after his recent performances. Liverpool don’t have a lot of goal scorers in their team, Coutinho is always worth a dabble because he’s a genuine threat from set plays and he can score from open play. If Origi starts then that’s where the money goes. Of course if Daniel Sturridge starts instead then he’s the one to back.
