We didn’t see this Marcus Rashford performance coming, but these shrewd punters certainly did…

LVG's new wonderkid cost Paddy Power a fair bit of money on Sunday

Being honest, when we saw Marcus Rashford grab a brace on his debut on Thursday night against FC Midtjylland, we thought he’d be straight back into the reserves.

Fast forward to Sunday and he’s named to start against Arsenal in a huge top four clash. Does he get stage fright? Not a hope, two goals in the space of two minutes for Rashford after half an hour had United in control. Danny Welbeck pulled one back just before half time, and Arsenal were back into it.

Twenty minutes into the second half and Rashford’s at it again, setting up Ander Herrera for United’s third. Mesut Ozil’s mishit was but a consolation as United won 3-2, leaving Arsenal now five points off of Leicester at the top.

In two matches, Marcus Rashford has scored more goals than Aston Villa have in their last 10.

But who could’ve seen that performance from the 18-year old coming? Well it turns out quite a few of our customers.

  • 91 punters backed Rashford to score two or more at 17/1 – including one punter in London that had £100 on to win £1,800;
  • 2 punters backed United 2-1 at HT / United 3-2 at FT at odds of 175/1;
  • 36 punters backed Rashford to score first and United to win 3-2 at odds of 175/1;

The Red Devils are now only three points off fourth, and have an easy (in theory) home game against Watford midweek. Can Rashford prove that he’s not just another Federicho Macheda by netting again? A 4/1 first goalscorer bet looks tasty. He’s 6/5 anytime and 7/1 to score twice again.  He’s English, so another performance like his first two could see Roy Hodgson consider his Euro 2016 squad.

And with Kane, Vardy and Marcus Rashford, who could stop the Three Lions in France?!

What do you think?
