Week Three Winner – Rob Cross
Rob Cross, like many other great players, has struggled against Luke Littler over the last 14 months but the defeat he suffered at the hands of the Nuke in Glasgow last week was probably his most hurtful loss against the teenager since the World Championship semi-final in 2024.
Voltage seemingly had it in the bag at 5-1 to the good, but the world No.2 had other ideas, rattling off five straight legs to beat Cross, who had won a Pro Tour event three days prior.
The 34-year-old has been in Players Championship action this week too, enjoying a run to the quarter-finals at PC3 before bowing out in round two the following day despite averaging 99.79.
Cross has had some bad beats over the last couple of weeks but there are signs that the consistency may have reappeared after a poor end to 2024. Voltage faces the vulnerable Nathan Aspinall in the last eight in Dublin, and would not have to face Littler or Luke Humphries until the final.
Humphries v Bunting – Highest Checkout Over 112.5
Matches between Humphries and Stephen Bunting tend to be closely fought and entertaining. Three of their last four leg-play H2Hs have gone to a deciding leg, whilst during that time they also contested a set-play encounter at the World Grand Prix, where Cool Hand survived a match dart in the second set before winning 2-1.
Each of their last five stage meetings have had at least one checkout greater than 112. Three of those saw both men achieve that feat albeit with two matches taking place over a slightly longer format.
In week one of the Premier League, Humphries boasted high checkouts of 139, 140, and 128 across his three matches. He also took out a 134 against Gerwyn Price last week. Bunting, meanwhile, has only won five legs throughout the campaign thus far, but one of those came via a 137 finish.
Price v Littler – Over 9.5 legs
Price holds four consecutive victories over Littler and will be no pushover on Thursday night. The Iceman beat the world champion en route to his PC2 success in Wigan earlier this month, and he almost followed that up with a Premier League night final berth two days later but fell 6-4 to Humphries who averaged 101.98 and hit 50 per cent of his doubles.
There was little Price could do about that, but there is no reason to believe he won’t arrive in Dublin full of confidence after another decent midweek on the Pro Tour. All three of the Welshman’s matches in this competition so far have gone over 9.5 legs, while three of Littler’s four have gone all the way to a decider.
