The 2024 Paddy Power World Darts Championship made history in more ways than one at the Ally Pally.
Paddy Power’s ‘The Bigger 180 campaign’ secured an incredible cash boost for Prostate Cancer UK throughout the tournament.
Fans following the action will have spotted Paddy’s pledge to donate £1,000 for EVERY 180 thrown at the PDC World Darts Championship this year – plus £60,000 for each nine-dart finish achieved at the event – as part of a commitment to the charity.
With 907 maximums thrown and two nine-dart finishes recorded at the world’s biggest darts competition. the final tally was more than £1.027m from Paddy’s ‘The bigger 180’ campaign.
The two perfect legs (9 darts) each triggered the £180,000 bonus split between the charity, the player and a randomly selected fan in attendance.
The initiative – now in its second year – aims to raise a serious message and awareness over prostate cancer.
Britain’s most decorated Olympian Sir Chris Hoy led the campaign to open up the conversation through his own personal battle.
“This isn’t about medals or records,” Hoy says. “It’s about saving lives. If sharing my story gets just one person to check their risk or book a screening, then it’s all been worth it.”
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men in the UK, with 1 in 8 men diagnosed during their lifetime. Every 45 minutes, another man loses his life to the disease – that’s more than 12,000 men every year.
