12:45pm: Kevin Doets v Chris Dobey – Chris Dobey to win 4-2

Kevin Doets have shown some real metal so far in this tournament. He’s beaten the World No. 2 Micheal Smith, got some revenge after losing to him last year, and also came back from two sets down against the former World Championship quarter-finalist, Krzysztof Ratajski, last time out, where he also had to defy matched darts as well.

So, he’s done brilliantly to this point, the first ever time he’s featured in the Last 16.

But, I’ve been really, quietly impressed by Chris Dobey, especially that 4-2 victory over Josh Rock a few days ago where he averaged 97.0, fired in a whole load of 180s as well, and’s also the player with more winning, experience on a big stage.

He’s a former Master’s Champions, he’s played in the Premier League, and I also feel after last year, where he kind of capitulated to Rob Cross, I think he’s going to want to right some wrongs.

I’m going for Chris Dobey to make the quarter-finals for the third year running with a 4-2 victory for ‘Hollywood.’

2:00pm: Robert Owen v Callan Rydz – Callan Rydz to win 4-2

Robert Owen has done so well to get to this point. He’s achieved a hell of a lot, making it to the Last 16 for the time in his career with the biggest win of his career, beating Ricky Evans to get here. Also, he’s retained his tour card in the process. It’s a superb achievement already.

As for Callan Rydz, he’s been the stand-out performer of the tournament, with an average of 107 in his opening match and in the third round when he averaged 105; to put that into context, he’s only the fifth player in history to average 105 a couple of times on the World Championship stage, in one tournament.

That’s behind Phil Taylor, Michael van Gerwen, Gary Anderson, and Luke Littler, all of those names there, I mean, it’s ridiculous really.

That just puts it into context and shows the level of performance he’s been showing already. I don’t think that form is going to desert him either. He’s a player who is absolutely full of confidence at the moment, after his performances already. I’m going for Callan Rydz to win 4-2.

3:15pm: Ricardo Pietreczko v Nathan Aspinall – Nathan Aspinall to win 4-3

I expect this one to be the closet of the lot. Ricardo Pietreczko stunned Scott Williams in the last round, beating him 4-1, with a 97 average as well. Pietreczko hasn’t been performing to maybe the levels he was at last year, but he’s brought his best stuff to the Ally Pally stage this time around.

Whereas Natan Aspinall, if you look at his last scoreline, a 4-0 win over Andrew Gilding last time out, he looked more comfortable, although a couple of the sets did go to deciding legs, and he didn’t average as high as Pietreczko, but I think that in this one, Nathan Aspinall loves the big stage, and he’ll have the crowd right behind him. I think that will be the difference.

And I mentioned the big stage because he has that experience of winning on the big stage, like Chris Dobey above. It’ll be similar for Aspinall here, as he’s a former UK Open champion and a former Matchplay champion, and I think that that winning experience and the crowd will be the difference for Nathan Aspinall. I’m going for a 4-3 win for Aspinall here.
