12.45pm: Ratajski v Toylo – Ratajski to win 3-1

Up first is Krzysztof Ratajski going head-to-head with the man who topped the Asian Order Of Merit, Alexis Toylo. Toylo sprung a bit of a surprise beating the experienced Richard Veenstra in the first round and averaged about 86.

I think Krzysztof Ratajski will have too much for him in the second round. You kind of know what you’re going to get with Krzysztof Ratajski, he’s a very consistent player.

He tends to average in the mid 90s and he’s a bit of a tough cookie to crack as well. He’s a former quarter finalist at the worlds and has good experience out on that stage. I’m going for the Pole to win 3-1.

1.45pm: Gilding v Lukeman – Gilding to win 3-1

Andrew Gilding then faces 2024 Grand Slam runner up Martin Lukeman. I thought Lukeman was a little bit disappointing, in some ways, in his opener against Nitin Kumar where he averaged about 87.

He had said before the game that he wasn’t feeling too well so I don’t know if that was a factor. Gilding, lost to Luke Littler on the world stage last year, but he’s shown that he’s a tough nut to crack as well.

He’s a former UK Open champ and made the quarter finals of the World Matchplay this year as well and I just think Gilding will have a little bit too much. I’m going 3-1 to Gilding.

2.45pm: Josh Rock v Rhys Griffin – Rock to win 3-1

Our third game of the afternoon sees Josh Rock playing Rhys Griffin. I was really impressed, actually, with Rhys Griffin who won his first round match against Karel Sedlacek and averaged 91.

The Welshman wasn’t favourite, he was the underdog in that one. I saw him after and he was buzzing with the win, he was full of confidence, so no doubt he’ll be relishing the opportunity to go back on the big stage.

Josh Rock is one of my outside picks for the tournament really because he was one of the favourites for the Worlds a couple of years ago but he’s had a better year this time around.

He’s won a couple of titles on the Pro Tour, one on the European Tour as well, and he’s a really dangerous plyer in that open third quarter of the draw. I’m going to go for a Josh Rock win in that one, also going 3-1.

3.45pm: Clayton v Mansell – Clayton win, Clayton 1+ 180s in each set

Finally on the final day at Ally Pally before Christmas, it’s the World No.7 Jonny Clayton who meets Mickey Mansell. Mansell was involved in a bit of a slugfest in his opener and averaged 81 against Tomoya Goto.

For Jonny, he’s had a relatively-consistent year, yes he went out early at the Players Championship finals losing to Florian Hempel but before that, since the beginning of October, he’s made four quarter finals and a final. That is out on the Pro Tour and the Euro Tour as well so he’s finding that consistency.

I’m going for a Jonny Clayton win and I also think there’s a little bit of value in a #WhatOddsPaddy play for Clayton to hit 1+ 180s in each set. That’s a bit of value so I’ll throw that one in there as well.
