12.45pm: Ryan Searle v Matt Campbell – Ryan Searle to win & #WhatOddsPaddy – Ryan Searle to throw 5+ 180s & have 2+ 100 checkouts

Matt Campbell did really well to come out of a deciding set against Mensur Suljović in the opening round, with an average of about 93. But, I think that the world number 20, Ryan Searle will have a little bit too much. He’s been in the Last 16 three times at Alexandra Palace, so I’m going for a win for ‘Heavy Metal’ here.

I also think there’s some value in the #WhatOddsPaddy for Searle to throw 5+ 180s & have 2+ 100+ checkouts

1.45pm: Dirk van Duijvenbode v Madars Razma – Dirk van Duijvenbode to win 3-1 and have the most checkouts & 180s

Madars Razma did well to prevail against Christian Kist a few nights ago despite the latter throwing a nine-darter. Today is very much all about Dirk van Duijvenbode though. He’s done really well to resurrect his career, making the quarter-finals at the European Championship, semi-finals at the Player’s Championship. He’ll be itching to have a good run at the World Championships, so I’m backing van Duijvenbode to win 3-1.

He’s one of the biggest scorers on the tour, so I’d also back him to have the most checkouts and 180s as well.

2.45pm: Joe Cullen v Wessel Nijman – Wessel Nijman to win 2-3

Another Dutchman, Wessel Nijman is going head-to-head against the rockstar Joe Cullen. Cullen is a slight underdog in this one and rightfully so. Since the World Grand Prix, he’s averaged below 90 in nine of the 11 games he’s played. So, that’s why Nijman is favourites.

His form over the last few months has been quite ridiculous. He’s averaging about six points above Cullen for the season. He came through a reaL test against South Africa’s Cameron Carolissen, and that would have served him well. It’ll be close, but I’m edging towards a 2-3 win for Nijman.

3.45pm: Ritchie Edhouse v Ian White – Ritchie Edhouse to win 3-1

The final match of the afternoon session sees Ritchie Edhouse going head-to-head with Ian “Diamond” White, who had a bye through to the second round after Sandro Eric Sosing fell ill. White hasn’t actually played up on the stage yet and he’s been so inconsistent this season, it’s really hard to call what version of him will turn up.

Ritchie Edhouse, meanwhile, has had his best year yet. He won the European Champions in October, his first major title, and only crashed out at the Players Championship finals due to a brilliant Luke Littler display. If he wins here, he’ll have another opportunity to face Littler again and he’ll really relish that. I’m backing a 3-1 win for Ritchie Edhouse.
