7.15pm: Noppert v Joyce – Noppert Most 180s
Whilst both these players have a lot of similar credentials, the 180 count does not fall into that category and DAnny Noppert is superior in this aspect of the game. His 180 per leg ratio for the season is 0.30 per leg whereas Ryan Joyce is running at 0.21 per leg for the season.
Joyce has already had a chance to experience the Ally Pally stage this year as he defeated Darius Labanauskas 3-1 in the opening round. His Lithuanian opponent is not a renowned maximum hitter but he defeated Joyce on the max count 3-2 and you would have to envisage Noppert will do that here too but with much more comfort.
Across this season Noppert has hit the most 180s in 54% of his matches, Joyce in comparison has done so in just 42% of matches and in both of their encounters this year it is the Dutchman who’s come out in top of the 180 battle, winning them 4-2 and 5-2. This should be a straightforward start to the evening Acca.
8.15pm: Van Barneveld v Kenny – RvB to win
The winner of this match will get the opportunity to take on World Champion and World Number One, Luke Humphries in Round Three and it would be a relative shock if Raymond van Barneveld did not oblige.
Over the course of 2024, Nick Kenny has won just 47% of his match on the main circuit, this figure includes his win over Stowe Buntz on Thursday night. Van Barneveld’s season win rate trumps this at 59%.
There’s no doubt that Barney is a better player than Kenny overall. Their PDC Order of Merit rankings support that case too with the legend of the sport sat in 32nd in the rankings and Kenny down at 76.
That win for Kenny over Stowe Buntz was just his 11th in his last 25 matches and he’ll have to improve somewhat in this match as his American opponent didn’t really push him in his opener. Barney who has 4 whitewash victories in his last 25 matches will reign supreme here.
10.15pm: Heta v Scutt – 2+ 100+ Checkouts
A super difficult game to call and one which could go all the way. With that in mind, there should be ample opportunities for both players to register big finishes.
This has been a particular strength of Heta’s throughout 2024 winning nigh on 15% of his legs by virtue of a ton-plus checkout. Similarly over the course of this year on the main circuit, Scutt has won 13% of his legs via this method.
Scutt managed to register 2 ton-plus checkouts in his straightforward demolition of Ben Robb in Round One and he also managed to hit one 100+ checkout in each of his matches in this event last year.
Heta also managed to notch up at least one 100+ checkout in each of three games at Ally Pally last year. One apiece would do us nicely here, as would either player to get two alone. It looks a real possibility that 2 or more will be landed here.
