It’s Saturday at the Paddy Power World Darts Championship and we kick off with the final pair of first round games. The wheat is beginning to be separated from the chaff as we prepare to embark of the rest of the second round ties and things really start to heat up.
Paddy’s pal Emma Paton is back at the oche to guide us through the afternoon session and, after nailing Stephen Bunting to win 3-1 yesterday, she’s got four more fine flutters up her sleeve. Take it away, Emma.

12.45pm: Sedlacek v Griffin – Sedlacek to win 3-1
First up we’ve got Karel Sedlacek going up against Rhys Griffin. Griffin came through a qualifier to book his spot at the Palace and is a fair underdog in this one.
I’m going to stick with the favourite to win because Sedlacek is one of the more dangerous unseeded players in the draw. He’s averaging about 93 for the season and he has made a quarter and semi final on the Pro Tour this year. My tip is Sedlacek to win this one 3-1.
1.45pm: Richard Veenstra v Alexis Toylo – Toylo to win
If you do want to back an outsider then this might be the one. Richard Veenstra takes on Alexis Toylo and Paddy’s got Toylo at quite a big price. He did top the Asian Tour Order Of Merit so clearly he has ability.
Veenstra is the more experienced player and we’ve seen glimpses of what he can do. He’s beaten Gary Anderson recently at a Players Championship event but Toylo is the best of the Asian players we’ve seen this year and there’s value in backing him to win in the second match.
2.45pm: Dolan v Lee – Dolan to win 3-1
After that we head to second round action and that’s our focus now from here on. First up it’s Brendan Dolan against Lok Yin Lee. Lee was good in getting past Chris Landman but only averaged about 84 in that 3-1 victory. I think Brendan Dolan, who is a seasoned pro, will have too much.
He made the quarter finals last year, which was a bit of a surprise really, beating Gerwyn Price and Gary Anderson en route. He’s averaging significantly higher than his opponent for the season so I’m going with Dolan to win 3-1.
3.45pm: Dobey v Merkx – Dobey to win 3-0
Finally on Saturday afternoon Chris Dobey gets his campaign up and running in second-round action against Alexander Merkx. Merkx beat Stephen Burton yesterday afternoon but averaged under 80.
I think this is going to be a comfortable win for Dobey who I’ve actually backed as one of my outside picks for the whole tournament. He’s a two-time quarter finalist and I fancy a really comfortable 3-0 win for Hollywood.
