The wait is finally over and we have three first found ties on Sunday night.
7.15pm: Thibault Tricole v Joe Comito
Tricole to win 3-0 & Tricole to win and to hit four or more 180s
Up first is the Frenchman Thibault Tricole going up against the Australian Joe Comito for a spot in the second round to face the defending and reigning world champion Luke Humphries later on in the night.
Tricole made his debut last year while Comito, who has played the majority of his darts on the Australian tour, makes his debut this time around. The experience will really be the difference for Tricole and he’s had a solid year.
He won his tour card back in January and has made the business end of a number of pro tour events this season and also beat Gerwyn Price at the Players Championship.
That could be crucial so I’m going for a comfortable 3-0 Tricole win. Also in the #WhatoddsPaddy market there’s a good price on Tricole to win and to hit four or more 180s which may well be one to get on.
8.15pm: Jermaine Wattimena v Stefan Bellmont
Wattimena to win 3-1
Second up we have Jermaine Wattimena going head-to-head with Stefan Bellmont. The latter is making his debut at the Ally Pally and he’s making a bit of history as well by being the first Swiss player to feature at the World Darts Championship.
He’ll be a little bit disappointed with the draw he’s got because Wattimena is perhaps one of the most dangerous unseeded players in the draw because of the darts he’s been playing all year and certainly in the last few months.
He made the final of the European Championship and the quarters of the Grand Slam where he was demolished by Luke Littler but still played pretty well.
Wattimena, this time around at the World Championship, is a man riding a wave of confidence really so he’s the one who’s coming out on top in this clash. I’m going for a 3-1 win for Wattimena.
9.15pm: Kim Huybrechts v Keane Barry
Barry to win 3-2
The final first-round tie of the night sees Kim Huybrechts taking on Keane Barry. Huybrechts is actually unseeded for the first time since 2019 and that, really, is a reflection of where he’s at right now.
He’s been blowing hot and cold and this is quite a touch one to call for me. I’m just going to give Barry the edge.
He’s won a number of Development Tour titles this year and reached the semi finals of the World Youth Championship as well. I’m going for Barry win but it is going to go to a deciding set so 3-2 to the young Irishman.
