Premier League of Darts – Night Ten

Luke Littler enjoyed his first Premier League victory on the Belfast stage last week, beating Humphries, van Gerwen and Aspinall to propel himself to second in the table. Defeats for Cross, Price and Smith opened up a gap to the top four, with Aspinall (16 pts) a couple of wins clear of Smith (13) and Cross (11).

Plenty can change tonight in Manchester, let alone over the next six weeks, so let’s take a look at the quarter-final lineups for Night 10.

7:15pm – Nathan Aspinall v Rob Cross – Nathan Aspinall To Win

Rob Cross’ six Premier League wins this year have all come against a different opponent, but he’s yet to beat the player he’s faced more than anyone else – Nathan Aspinall. The pair have met four times, with The Asp claiming victory on each occasion, including last-leg deciders in the last two.

It feels all but guaranteed we’ll see a close match here. So I wouldn’t put anyone off Over 9.5 legs at 5/6, but I’m backing Aspinall to continue his run of form, and his dominance over Rob Cross, to come out with the win here.

7:45pm – Luke Littler v Michael van Gerwen – Luke Littler -1.5

Littler and MvG have faced each other four times in the Premier League, with two wins each. MvG won the first two clashes 6-5, while Littler has had the upper hand recently, winning 6-2 and 6-3. MvG has struggled for results of late, winning for the first time in five weeks last Thursday, before losing to Littler in the Semi-Final.

Despite a run to the final in the European Tour this weekend, he was roundly beaten by Luke Humphries and hasn’t quite rediscovered his form from earlier in the competition. After victory last week, Littler is well-placed to see off MvG this week, with a score of 6-4 or better an appealing price.

8:15pm – Michael Smith v Luke Humphries – Both Players to Hit 3+ 180s Each

Smith’s ambitions to close the gap to the top four may have to wait a week as he’s up against the scintillating Luke Humphries in Manchester. Humphries’ winning streak was brought to an end by Littler last week, but he quickly got over it, winning the European Tour 2 in Munich a few days later.

These two are the Premier League’s bigger 180-hitters: Smith averages 3.75 maximums per match in the Premier League this year, while Humphries has hit just over 3.5 per match. In their three meetings so far, they’ve hit 21 180s between them and we should see plenty here, assuming Smith can avoid being steamrolled by Humphries.

8:45pm – Gerwyn Price v Peter Wright – Over +9.5 Total Legs

If Peter Wright is to scrape himself off the bottom of the Premier League table, he needs to beat Gerwyn Price in Manchester this week. A victory for Snakebite would take him to within a point of the Iceman, although a Price win restores a five-point gap.

Despite averaging seven points less than the Welshman, Wright managed victory over Price a few weeks ago. Price got his revenge in the European Tour at the weekend, with a 6-4 victory over Wright and a significantly better average again. Both of their meetings this month have had at least 10 legs and I’d expect Price to come through a relatively close game again this time.
