12.15pm: Radek Szaganski v Marko Kantele

First up we’ve got Radek Szaganski against Marko Kantele. Szaganski is here at the World Championship for the very first time against Kantele which is a name you’re probably familiar with because he’s been at the World Cup a number of times for Finland and he’s also featured here at the World Championships four times previously.

Szaganski has won a world ranking title this year and, on top of that, he’s got a bit of a sub-plot going on because he’s bidding to retain his Tour card. I’m actually going to against the grain here and I’m, going for a Szaganski win. I think it could be close so I’m going for Szaganski to Win 3-2.

1.45pm: Steve Lennon v Owen Bates

Next up we’ve got Steve Lennon against Owen Bates. This is one where I think experience will prevail. Bates is a 21-year-old debutant who’s had a really good season, it’s been a breakthrough year really.

Steve Lennon is a former world finalist and is making a sixth appearance here. I think Lennon might have a little too much for Bates on this occasion.

2.45pm: William O’Connor v Bhav Patel

Then comes William O’Connor v Bhav Patel. I think this might be a similar story to the proceeding game. O’Connor was the other half of the World Cup pairing that finished runners up a number of years ago and is Ireland’s No.1 making his seventh appearance.

On the other hand Bhav Patel is making his first and it’s quite a big moment for him as he becomes just the fourth player from India to ever feature on the World Championship stage. He’s trying to become the first to win here as well so I think this could be quite one-sided and I’m going O’Connor to win 3-0 in sets and win each set 3-0

3.45pm: Ross Smith v Niels Zonneveld

Finally it’s our second round match with our seed Ross Smith up against Niels Zonneveld. Smith was the European champion last year and is inside the top 16 in the world.

He’s going to have far too much for Zonneveld who actually got his first win on the Ally Pally stage just a few days ago but Smith is a bit of a dark horse in the top quarter of the draw. I think he’ll have a really, really good run this year so I’ll go for a Smith 3-1 win.
