7:15pm: Steve Beaton v Wessel Nijman – Wessel Nijman to Win
Steve Beaton is in his 33rd consecutive World Championship and it’s been a solid year for him. Steve always does enough to make it to the Ally Pally. He featured at the World Matchplay but was well beaten by Michael Smith.
He’s got a real challenge here against Wessel Nijman who finished well on the development tour, getting his debut on the main tour, and has a tour card now for two years as well. I think Nijman will come through this one quite comfortably in the end and book that clash with Daryl Gurney.
8:15pm: Mike de Decker v Dragutin Horvat – Mike De Decker to Win 3-0
The second match of the evening features one of the most improved players of this year. Mike de Decker got to his first tour final this year. He featured at the World Matchplay and at the Grand Prix and is a big 180 hitter when he gets going as well.
He’s up against Dragutin Horvat who has won the German Super League. He’s featured in the World Championship on one occasion in the past but was well beaten by Simon Whitlock. I see this one being pretty comfortable for De Decker. I think he’ll come through a 3-0 winner.

9.10pm: Ricardo Pietreczko v Mikuru Suzuki – Ricardo Pietreczko to Win 3-0 In Sets And Win Each Set Either 3-0 Or 3-1
Our third match features another German player with Ricardo Pietreczko taking on Mikuru Suzuki.
Mikuru is at the Ally Pally for her second appearance but for Ricardo it’s his debut as he’s had a breakthrough year. He won the German Darts Championship, deating Peter Wright in the final with eight out of eight on the doubles.
He then played Bo Greaves in the Grand Slam and was a bit inexperienced but I think the lessons learnt will help him in the build-up to this match.
I can see this one being a comfortable win for Ricardo.
10.10pm: Michael van Gerwen v Keane Barry – Michael van Gerwen to win 3-0
Michael van Gerwen starts his campaign for a fourth world title by taking on Keane Barry and I think the matchup just suits the Dutchman. It’ll be played at a ferocious place and he’s in good form.
He had a great tournament recently at the Players Championship Finals and despite losing out in the final, he comes here as a big favourite.
I can’t see him having any problems dealing with Keane Barry who laboured through his first round match. I’m backing Michael van Gerwen to win 3-0 and book his spot in round three.
