12.45pm: Lee Evans v Sandro Eric Sosing – Evans to Win 3-0
I can see this being quite comfortable for Lee, who has been solid this year. He’s had a few cracks at the PDC tour before and it has quite clicked for him to make it to the World Championship but he’s here this year and knows there’s a big opportunity to play the in-form Luke Humphries in the next round.
They’re good friends and that might spur him on in this match too.
He should come through this one even if there might be some nerves early and I can see Evans winning in straight-sets, as he just has that little bit of class and experience.
1.45pm: Connor Scutt v Krzysztof Kciuk – Scutt to Win 3-2
This is a fascinating tie, particular from Connor’s perspective as there’s a bit more at stake than just a spot in the second round for him here.
In fact, he’ll probably need to make the third round if he’s to keep his tour card. That means there’s a bit of extra pressure in this match.
But Connor has been solid in 2023 having got to grips with the challenges of the PDC, while Krzysztof’s come through the qualifiers to get here.
Connor will have too much and should just edge this 3-2. Then he’ll have a crack at Gerwyn Price in round two.
2.45pm – Jules van Dongen v Darren Penhall – Van Dongen to Win 3-2
This is another tight one. Jules is another one leaving it late in the year to keep his card, and he may need to win a couple of matches here to do it.
He’s come into a bit of form though and started hitting 180s again recently.
Just the fact that he’s playing at the PDC level week in and week out will be enough to get through against Darren. Again, I’d predict a 3-2 win for the favourite.
