Chris Hammer from The Sporting Life joins us again to weigh up the matches on Monday at the PDC World Darts Championship.
WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!
Fourth seed James Wade tops the bill against Maik Kuivenhoven, but before that there’s Luke Woodhouse against Jamew Wilson, Rusty-Jake Rodriguez plays Ben Robb and the one and only Raymmond van Barneveld makes his much-anticipated return against Lourence Ilagan.
Raymond van Barneveld v Lourence Ilagan
PDC World Darts Championship, Monday, from 7pm on Sky Sports Arena
Ilagan is one of the most charismatic, passionate players you’re ever likely to see on the Ally Pally stage. Although he’s lost all his appearances on the big stage, he always entertains and he’s put in some good performances – he had five 180s in a narrow defeat last year, and he’ll revel in the atmosphere the Barney army will provide.
Van Barneveld has enjoyed a decent year returning to the circuit, but I think he sometimes struggles with the hype around these games, he went out in the group stage of the Grand Slam, and I think it’s worth siding with his opponent on the handicap with a 1.5 set headstart.
Handicap: Lourence Ilagan +1.5 Sets
I’d double that up with James Wilson to beat Luke Woodhouse. He’s a slight outsider to beat Luke Woodhouse on his first appearance here since 2019. Although he had to battle through the final qualifying tournament to get here, that did end a losing streak and build some confidence for Wilson.
He’s also averaging more than Woodhouse, who has not had the best year either especially in recent months, this season too, so I think this is an opportunity to get an odds-against selection in.
Double: Ilagan +1.5 Sets & Wilson to Win
Monday’s Darts Tips
- 7pm: Luke Woodhouse v James Wilson – Match Odds: Wilson to Win
