Darts Tips: Back this Lauby & Ashton double at the World Championship on Thursday night

Let's play darts! Or maybe just have a bet on them with Chris Hammer? Whatever you prefer, really

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… yes, the PDC World Darts Championship is here!

Day two at the Ally Pally sees Ireland Willie O’Connor face American Danny Lauby while Lisa Ashton hopes to upset Ron Meulenkamp – and we’re hoping to make it just that little bit more memorable thanks to Chris Hammer’s picks…

Willie O’Connor v Danny Lauby

7pm, Sky Sports Darts

Match Odds: Danny Lauby  to Win

Sadly for Irish readers, I don’t think Willie O’Connor will go through. He’s probably going to be a first-round casualty because Danny Lauby is a top prospect from the USA.

It’s only a matter of time before we see him more regularly on these big stages as he’s a really good player and has been over here a while and playing in the online darts leagues so he’s really getting the practice in.

I think he’s going to catch O’Connor cold because he hasn’t had the best seasons by his standards. His average is around the 90 mark for the season and that puts him in the vulnerable category for me, so I think that could be a little upset.

Double: Danny Lauby -1.5 Sets, Lisa Ashton -1.5 Sets

For a double, I’m going to go for Lauby on the hand handicap and also Lisa Ashton on the handicap.

The case for Lauby is clear above. Now, Lisa has shouldered a lot of pressure in her last two appearances at the Ally Pally and despite that she’s done very well and come very close to history-making wins.

But because of Fallon Sherrock, she’s been kind of forgotten about now, and I think, without that pressure and being under the microscope her best game can come through, and I think she can really trouble Ron Meulenkamp.

He’s not ripping up trees on the tour this season and again he’s definitely beatable – Lisa has beaten him once before.

I think she’s producing the kind of averages that will trouble Ron. It’s worth siding with her on the handicap as well.
