We’ve got two tight games here, and in both I’m going to favour the outsiders, the unseeded players.
In the first game, that is Mickey Mansell. He played well in his first round game and has the advantage of having played already. Ricky Evans is the seed but he hasn’t actually been playing great this year. He’s a very fast player but he has the tendency to spray darts around when he’s under pressure.
I think Mansell will get the decision over him here.
Again, I’m going to go with the slight outsider here in Andy Boulton. Stephen Bunting is obviously a bigger name but he has been in very poor form this year. Boulton is just a good, solid player and his current performances are more consistent than Bunting’s so I will take him to win here.
Jermaine Wattimena is the seed here, and he is playing Nick Kenny. Wattimena is a very fast player, which can sometimes cause him trouble, but he is good. I think he is just a level above Kenny so I would expect Wattimena to win quite easily here. I think the selection might be Wattimena (-1.5) on the set handicap. The price on that looks good.
Michael Smith should have too much for Jason Lowe here. I think Smith is a very, very good player. His scoring is up there with the very best in the world – he tends to have trouble hitting doubles in later rounds against top players but he should have no trouble at all with Lowe here.
Lowe was in good form earlier in the year but the last couple of months he’s fallen off and he was very poor in his first round against the Russian Dimitry Gorbunov. I think Smith can win very easily here, 3-0 in sets and that will be my selection here.
