The festive period is in full swing and that can only mean one thing – the darts is back!
Reigning champion Peter Wright is looking to defend his PDC World Darts Championship crown at Alexandra Palace this month, but ‘Snakebite’ will have to do so without the support of fans from Wednesday onwards due to the UK’s Tier 3 Covid-19 restrictions coming into force in London.
Paddy Power tipster James Dolphin has previewed the action and picked out a host of best bets.
13:10: Ross Smith v David Evans
We’ve not exactly got two household names here but it should be a tight match as both have had success this year. David Evans most notably for his success in the Modus Icons Darts League while Ross Smith has had a couple of decent runs in majors.
Evans probably lacks the big stage experience on the PDC. While he did reach the quarter-finals of the BDO earlier in 2020, he hasn’t featured in any big PDC tournaments. For this reason, I think Smith should get the job done, although at 8/13 he is probably short enough.
I’d be looking at the 180s for a bet.

David Evans Most 180s and Lose
14:05: William O’Connor v Niels Zonneveld
This should be another tight one. William O’Connor (below) definitely trumps Niels Zonneveld on big stage experience but Zonneveld has shown some decent form of late, knocking out James Wade in the first round of the Players Championship Finals.
One thing which stands out about the young Dutchman is his 180 hitting prowess and he looks worth a bet in the Most 180s market.
Best bet
20:05: Adam Hunt v Lisa Ashton
The four-time Ladies World Champion features in this match, against an in-form Adam Hunt. This is going to be a tough match for Hunt and he may benefit from the lack of crowd, which was sure to be on Ashton’s side. He has also failed to beat Ashton in their two previous meetings this year – losing 6-4 on both occasions.
Ashton will be quietly fancying this and she also looks to have been underestimated in the market on her 180s hitting prowess.
