Gary Anderson: Celebrate? I’d rather be back in bed!

Maybe he's just won so much he's got bored?

There wasn’t much celebrating when I won the Champions League.

It was the same when I won the World Championship – back to the hotel, coffee, and bed, and that was it.

If you’re lucky enough to win one of these, that’s it usually. There’s not use blowing your horn about it.

It’s just the way I am. I don’t get too hyped up. You play a tournament, you win it, or you lose it, you’ve the next one next week. That’s it.

Best thing about the darts

I would put down the countries that I’ve seen playing a game of darts. I’ve been all over the world. Dubai, Japan, Australia.

I loved playing in Vegas. It’s so over the too. I liked playing anything you can win at there – which is not a lot because you’re not supposed to win!

And then Dubai is over, over, over the top! It’s an unreal place, with what they’ve got there, the buildings and everything there.

The worst thing’s being away all the time. You’re living out of suitcase. It’s tough having youngsters and a family and you’re away all the time.

I’ve done it half my life now, so having the time at home with the injury this year was alright too, I enjoyed it a bit.

Defending the crown

The Champions League is extra-special for me now after the year I’ve had. I’m not counting my chickens, I can only go out there and see what happens. and I know myself my game’s not right just now. But it could appear again this weekend, but we’ll have to wait and see.

I’m looking forward to 2020 now but there’s a heck of a lot of darts between then and now. I’m trying to put in my best performance for the rest of this year and get back with a good start to next year.

I just want to try to play as much as I can and get back to the old way I play darts. The only way to that is to play just about everything. The more I play the better I should get.

I lost my opener last year and won it. I’d the 140 versus MVG. I should’ve had the game wrapped up, but I made a complete mess of it and just survived by taking that out – and after he had darts to beat me.

I’m playing him again this year in the group. It should be good, I enjoy playing him. We bang heads a bit on-stage, we’ve a bit of a rivalry – I wouldn’t say friendly rivalry because we are up there to beat each other up.

That can kick-start your game – or he can just go up there and batter me 10-0! But I’ll get up there and see what happens.

I should be alright if I leave myself 140 though!
