When he’s on top form there’s few more merciless than Michael van Gerwen and he wasted no time sending Dave Chisnall packing today at the Champions League of Darts.
Showing exactly why he’s the world’s number one, van Gerwen powered in an awesome 111.23 average to ruthlessly dispatch Chisnall on 10-2 scoreline.
It’s certainly was a performance that will make the rest of the tournament set up and taken notice of MVG as he looked back to his absolute best.
Speaking to Paddy Power News after the game van Gerwen couldn’t have been happier with his performance.
“That was a phenomenal opening performance from me against Dave Chisnall, I’ve never played so well in this tournament,” said Mighty Mike.
“My scoring was there at the right times and my finishing was great too. Ì believe the total package in this game for me was good. I hope I can continue this good form.
“I said yesterday that I feel good, so the rest are going to have to play very well to beat me.”
After his shock victory over Gary Anderson today, Daryl Gurney is next on the hitlist for MVG tonight’s evening session and van Gerwen is keen to put on another show later.
“Next round I play Daryl Gurney, I’ve a fantastic record against him too.”
So, I need to smash him too and that’s what I’m looking forward to doing.
“I want to get the job done early so I can relax tomorrow afternoon.”
