Darts: Michael Van Gerwen’s 7/2 double for the World Matchplay quarters

The world number one may have left the Winter Gardens' stage in the first round of this year's World Matchplay, but he's still kept an eye on Blackpool...

MVG didn’t enjoy the best of times in Blackpool’s Winter Gardens this week, knocked out by his fellow countryman Jeffrey De Zwann in the first round of the World Matchplay.

Fortunately for us – and maybe for you – that gave him the chance to give us his thoughts on the first two quarter-finals in the tournament.

They take place on Thursday, and Michael gave us his picks which, doubled up, pay out a tidy 7/2.

Jeffrey De Zwann v Dave Chisnall

“Of course, Dave Chisnall is the favourite, but Jeffrey’s had wins against me and Adrian Lewis here so I think that’s a big thing for him, and if he could win tonight it would be massive. This could be a huge tournament for him in the future.

“Also, Dave hasn’t been in the best of form in the last few months, so that would give Jeffrey a bit of hope too, but in the end I think Chisnall will have enough to get by here.”

Dave Chisnall -2.5 on the Handicap market is 6/5

Joe Cullen v Gary Anderson

“Gary will win this.At this stage, matches are best of 31, and I think Gary can win well the way he is playing.

“He’s in good form, he beat Raymond van Barneveld in the last round, and Raymond had a chance against him, he was up early but Gary won it in the end.

“I would expect it to finish 16-10 or thereabouts.”

Gary Anderson -5.5 on the Alternative Handicap market is 23/20
