Saturday 7:30am: Australia v New Zealand
ICC World Cup – Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala
TV – Sky Sports Cricket

Australia to Win

Australia have enjoyed an extended period of dominance over New Zealand. Since the start of 2015, Australia have won 10 of the 16 One Day Internationals (ODI) played, losing only five (one no-result).

Only Kane Williamson has played more than one ODI v Australia in the squad and averages over 30 – worse for the Black Caps is that Williamson’s involvement is unlikely due to a fractured thumb. Australia should extend their winning streak due to the lack of New Zealand runs.

David Warner to Score Over 34.5 Runs

After a slow start David Warner has scored consecutive centuries against Pakistan and the Netherlands. His record against New Zealand is modest by his standards (639 runs in 15 innings at 42.60) but should still be enough to score over 34.5 runs.

Trent Boult to be Top New Zealand Wicket-Taker

Trent Boult has a good record against Australia, taking 39 wickets in 15 ODIs at an average of 16.94. Most of his wickets are hoovering up tailenders but they are wickets nonetheless.

That said, Boult has enjoyed success against the in-form Glenn Maxwell in the past, dismissing him six times out of the seven times they have faced each other. Boult to be New Zealand’s top wicket-taker.

Pat Cummins to be Top Australia Wicket-Taker

Australia have a wealth of bowling options who have performed against New Zealand in the past with no less than five bowlers averaging under 22 against the Black Caps.

These figures dip even lower when taking into account the Australian bowlers’ records against those in the Kiwi squad with Pat Cummins, Josh Halzewood, Mitchell Starc and Adam Zampa averaging 12.63, 13.81, 16.93 and 19.00 respectively.

It’s tough to separate the group but Cummins, with his strike-rate against this NZ squad of 17.4 (lowest of his team mates) probably knicks it. Cummins to be Australia top wicket-taker.

Australia Higher Opening Partnership

Boosted by their mammoth opening partnership against Pakistan, Australia’s openers have averaged 68.60 before the first wicket, scoring 343 runs in total. New Zealand’s opening pair on the other hand, have only scored 128 runs at an average of 25.60.

Australia score more quickly at the top of the innings too – 7.00 runs per over compared to New Zealand’s 4.92. Australia to have a higher opening partnership.
