July 17-31: England v Australia
Australia lead series 2-1
Ashes 4th Test, The Oval
TV: Sky Sports
The Ashes have been retained by Australia after the rain saved them in Manchester but the series remains on the line when the two teams end an enduring series at The Oval.
The Banker
England To Win 5th Test
A disillusioned England team is still reeling from losing the Ashes in the sheds as rain teemed down over Manchester but with the urn safely returning to Australia it is likely England will go into this more motivated.
Say what you will about England – they are fully committed and engaged with Bazball. Even in defeat they firmly believe they have been the better team.
While it is questionable whether they have been the better team over the course of the series, there is no doubt that they have wrestled the ascendancy and come into the fifth Test with plenty of momentum. England claimed the third Test and dominated the fourth Test before the rains hit hard.

Brendon McCullum’s team certainly have an outstanding recent record at The Oval. Since 2017, they have won four of five Tests there including a nine-wicket win over South Africa a year back.
In the last five Tests against Australia at The Oval, England have lost just once. In 2019, England won by 135 runs on the back of some outstanding fourth innings spin bowling.
Both teams are lacking a frontline spin option but at least England have been playing Moeen Ali – Australia opted for no spinner at Old Trafford.
England are almost ideological in their fanaticism about Bazball. They want to prove it is the new way. That puts them in a great spot heading into the final Test so we’ll kick off with England to Win.
The Value
Mitchell Marsh To Score 50 or More Runs
Mitchell Marsh has been one of the revelations of this Ashes series. Winning a recall in the Third Test in place of the injured Cameron Green, he scored 118 and 28 and then followed it up with a 51 and an unbeaten 31 at Old Trafford.
There is no Australian bat in better form and Marsh is great value to Score 50 Or More Runs for the third straight Test in his first innings. With his best performances coming against England, this is an excellent bet.
The Longshot
Chris Woakes Top England Wicket Taker – 1st Innings
Chris Woakes was outstanding when he last played at The Oval. Despite not getting the new ball, Woakes returned figures of 4-55 and 3-83. Woakes opened the Old Trafford Test with a 5-62 and has three-plus wickets in the three completed innings he has bowled in this series. Chris Woakes Top England Wicket Taker In The 1st Innings is tremendous value.
