WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!
The Banker
Blundstone Arena gets back to the Test arena after five seasons off the scene so there is not a lot of recent data to work off, but there have been five Tests since 2010. In four of those there has been a score north of 121.5, while there has been a century in all five.
Batsman need to dig in at Hobart but there are runs to be had on a ground that can flatten out to a road if conditions dry out. The England bowling attack has shown little ability to contain Australian bats so the over looks the bet in this market.
The Value
The gritty Ben Stokes has finally found some form after missing plenty of cricket and tends to stay in good nick once he finds it. He really dug deep with scores of 66 and 60 in Sydney, spending over two-and-a-half hours at the crease in both innings. They were the kind of innings that can set a talented player back to return to form.
Stokes has four tons and nine more 50s since the start of the 2019 Ashes. He should enjoy Tasmania with his patience a virtue on a deck that typically moves around a lot.
The Long Shot
Steve Smith got thrown the ball late in the fourth Test and did a job by getting the critical wicket of Jack Leach. Tim Paine showed little interest in giving Smith an over but Pat Cummins went to him last Test and Smith gave himself a trundle in Adelaide. He may get more of a bowl after claiming the Leach wicket and the price is worth a nibble.
