Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals face off for a place in Friday’s Indian Premier League final, with the two most consistent sides of this year’s competition always likely to contest this fixture having set the pace for much of the season.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

The Capitals claimed top spot in the league table following CSK’s late slump which saw them lose their last three matches of the regular season, including against the Capitals at this venue. In fact, the Capitals won both meetings between these two sides this term, by seven wickets at Mumbai and three wickets in Dubai.

Chennai Super Kings to Win

Still, CSK have a fine pedigree in the IPL – winning the competition for a third time as recently as 2018 – and their big-match players and proven track record of coming good when it matters most is hard to deny. While MS Dhoni might not be the force of old with the bat, his captaincy remains sharp and he has surrounded himself with born winners Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo and Faf du Plessis who all boast so much experience.

The Capitals must dust themselves down having lost an incredible match with Royal Challengers Bangalore on Friday. The quality within their squad suggests they should be able to do just that, but they failed to turn up when heavily beaten by Mumbai Indians in last year’s final.

They didn’t handle the pressure well when under the pump in the field against RCB, and I still have my doubts about them on the biggest stage, for all their high-class bowling attack is clearly a fearsome prospect. I think Chennai Super Kings have the mentality to Win here.

Moeen Ali to be Man Of The Match

In the side markets, Moeen Ali looks worth a small investment for Man of the Match honours. Ali has enjoyed strong returns with the bat this season – making 304 runs at a strike-rate of 133.33 – and the freedom he has been encouraged to play within these colours is bringing the best out in him.

While he has been largely underbowled by Dhoni, it was significant that he delivered three economical overs when facing the Capitals recently and the strong representation of left-handers in the opposition batting line-up suggests that will be the case again on Sunday.

With preference for CSK to win the match, taking double-figure odds about one of their key performers – in this case the all-round skills of Ali to be Man Of The Match – makes perfect sense.
