Paddy’s pal Tony Bellew hit the headlines around the world this week with his sensational hijack of Jake Paul’s final press conference before he gets clobbered by Mike Tyson in the early hours of Saturday

The mouthy Scouser’s trash-talking brought the Ariel Helwani-hosted jaw-jabbering to a stunning halt as he called out the Youtuber-turned-combat athlete in hilarious fashion, accompanied by mean, lean fighting machine Norman, 70, who he’s been training to take on Paul in his first comeback fight following the inevitable Tyson battering.

But the madness didn’t stop there, as the former WBC cruiserweight champion was subsequently bundled out the arena by security – surely any proper fighter would’ve done the job himself, Jake?

And he explained to Paddy Power News what was going through his mind to cause the chaotic call-out.

“That’s my hero and icon Mike Tyson on that stage up there. I’ve idolised him since I was a baby. I lifted belts myself because I had Mike Tyson to look up to and inspire me. I’m not usually like this but that’s my hero on that stage and don’t like seeing it.”

“I don’t know what’s going to happen in the fight but I hope that Mike Tyson doesn’t get hurt.

“And Jake Paul could hurt him – of course he could, he’s half his age!

“But I’m 41, I play golf a couple of times a week, I’ve a fat belly, and he wouldn’t stand a single hope in hell against me.

“I wouldn’t even need to train. I could just get in the ring and lamp him out pretty quickly.

Of course, Bellew wasn’t in attendance to make put forward his own claim for meeting in the ring – or the carpark, to be honest – with Paul, but that of another heavy-hitter; Norman, the 70-year-old retiree he’s been training.

“I don’t think Jake Paul has the b****cks to face Norman, in all honesty.”

“I just had to let it be known that Jake Paul’s fighting a grandfather and if loses he’s going to need a GREAT grandfather as his comeback opponent.

“That’s where Norman comes in – he’s got two new hips, he’s the champion of his care home and he’s ready to rock-n-roll.”

“If Jake Paul’s going down this path of fighting older fighters, why not just fight the oldest fighter going? Norman’ll take him on, any time, anywhere.

“Except Thursday. He’s got bingo on a Thursday.”

Asked if he’d take on Jake Paul himself, Bellew was unequivocal.

“Jake Paul couldn’t deal with the smoke from one of my farts. Get a grip of yourself.”
