Daniel Dubois has been promoted to heavyweight champion of the world despite Oleksandr Usyk being fit and active. However, the Ukranian loss is Britain’s gain as Dubois makes his first defence against boxing icon Anthony Joshua in London on Saturday night. Let’s see where the value lies.
Daniel Dubois v Anthony Joshua betting tips
Joshua To Win the Fight in Round 9-12
Dubois To Win the Fight in Round 5-8
Joshua to Win on Points & both Fighters to be Knocked Down
WHEN: Saturday, September 21 – from 10pm
WHERE: Wembley Stadium
TV: DAZN/Sky/TNT
Boxing politics is never straightforward, and Dubois is the mandatory challenger for one of the straps. But with no fight with Usyk in the pipeline, they have seen fit to elevate the Londonder to champion. The Ukrainian is still the boss of the heavyweight division, but now we also get a mouthwatering clash between the young generation and a former champ.
This is a rare chance for AJ to become a three-time titleholder in the glamour division. No one who has seen the face-offs between the big men can doubt that tensions are running high, and I’m expecting a blood-and-guts battle for the coveted strap.
Joshua To Win the Fight in Round 9-12
Josh is a huge favourite for the fight, but I see this as a close contest. Both men have incredible power and have the knockout records to prove it. Still, the experienced superstar typically starts in a controlled fashion, establishes the jab, and patiently waits for the opening.
AJ has scored late KOs before, most notably against Wladimir Klitschko in round 11 and Carlos Takam in the 10th session. At the same time, Dubois’ two losses have been stoppages in round 9 against Usyk and round 10 against Joyce. Joshua is a hefty price to win late again, but I think it’s a great bet.
Dubois To Win the Fight in Round 5-8
There’s been lots of talk that the ‘old’ AJ is back, but that version of the champ was known to gas in the middle rounds. Dubois, 26, is probably the biggest puncher Joshua, 34, has faced and a middle rounds stoppage win for ‘Triple D’ at Wembley on Saturday is an incredible price.
Joshua to Win on Points & both Fighters to be Knocked Down
In Dubois ‘ last two contests, we’ve seen defensive frailties from both boxers, but both have shown huge heart. Either man can knock the other down, but if it goes the distance, Joshua’s ability to score with long, straight shots must make him a favourite. If you’re looking for a massive price, this is your best bet.
