Well, well, well. There is fresh doubt surrounding a world heavyweight championship scrap between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk after the Gypsy King was nearly embarrassed by boxing novice Francis Ngannou.
A date of Saturday, December 23 was provisionally pencilled in after WBC title holder Fury and WBA, WBO and IBF king Usyk agreed terms to meet in the ring in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia but it now looks set to take place next year.
That’s because Fury was knocked down by Ngannou and was rather fortunate to scrape home on points against the former UFC champion to avoid the first defeat of his illustrious career.
Regardless of the delay, Fury v Usyk promises to be one of the biggest fights in the history of boxing as the winner will take their place in the history books as the first man to hold all four belts at the same time.
Fury, 35, boasts an unbeaten record of 33 victories and one draw, while Usyk, 36, has a perfect CV with 21 wins from 21 fights after taking three belts from Anthony Joshua and his most recent bout was a workmanlike victory over Daniel Dubois in August.
