While the fight represents a change of plans for Joshua, the former heavyweight champion of the world hopes to reclaim his belts, despite suffering three defeats in his last six.
The 33-year-old bounced back from a second loss to Oleksandr Usyk by beating Jermaine Franklin in underwhelming circumstances in April and victory against Helenius could tee up a scrap with Deontay Wilder at the end of the year.
