KATIE TAYLOR V CHANTELLE CAMERON BETTING TIPS

The Draw
Katie Taylor to Win via Points or Decision

Saturday, May 20, from 10pm
TV: DAZN

Technically, this fight is “Cameron versus Taylor”, rather than the other way around, as Ireland’s undisputed lightweight queen is moving up a division to take on unbeaten, unified super lightweight champ Cameron. The bout takes place at the 3Arena in Dublin after a deal for Croke Park couldn’t be made despite Conor McGregor’s generous offer of involvement.

Taylor, 36, is in the twilight of her career but there aren’t any noises about retirement, far from it – the 2012 Olympic gold medalist was supposed to be rematching Amanda Serrano this weekend but when that fight was called off she sought the next most dangerous assignment.

DRAW

Katie is favourite in Paddy’s book but, make no mistake, Cameron, 32, is a proper opponent. The Northampton lass is in her prime and she is coming off the best run of her career.

Chantelle beat Mary McGee to unify the division in 2019 and she collected the remaining straps when she schooled fellow titleholder Jessica McCaskill in November in Abu Dhabi. As an amateur Cameron was a top international but she never excelled in the major competitions. To be fair to her, she is better than ever now and the Pros really is her game – she has a great engine and she punches hard.

The Brit has never been overwhelmed in either boxing code and she is getting this bout at the right time in her career. Cameron has the size advantages over Taylor and she showed
against the aggressive McCaskill that she can stick to a game plan.

Truthfully, I don’t think weight will be an issue for Katie who will avoid such a severe weight cut on Saturday. Ten rounds of two minutes is a sprint rather than a marathon, and it is so
hard to separate two fighters of this quality over that distance. There’s little between Taylor and Cameron at this stage of their careers and the draw looks like the stand-out bet for the headline fight in Dublin.

TAYLOR TO WIN VIA POINTS OR DECISION

The Bray boxer is a hero in her homeland but she hasn’t had the chance to compete there in her glittering professional career before this weekend. For some fighters the pressure might get the better of them, but most people feel that Katie – like always – will rise to the occasion.

This scrap is a step up for Cameron, and however good she has looked she’ll find things more difficult in Ireland. Despite the 140-pound champ’s obvious power she only has one KO win in her last seven contests, and if you can’t stop Taylor it is very hard to beat her.

Katie doesn’t have the potency to finish her best opponents either, and the fight will almost certainly go the distance. Taylor always finds a way to nick the rounds she needs to win a boxing match, and with the crowd cheering every punch she throws the judges may give her nod – Taylor to win on points isn’t a surprise tip but it’s so hard to bet against.
