He’s back, back again. That’s right, Anthony Joshua is set to return to the ring on Saturday night as he bids to regain his heavyweight belts from Oleksandr ‘The Cat’ Usyk.
All the chatter before last year’s loss to the Ukrainian was about an all-British unification bout with Tyson Fury, but AJ now needs to avenge that defeat if he’s to get his career at the top table back on track.
WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!
Regardless of what happens in his rematch with Usyk, Joshua is ready to rumble once again in December, but who could he meet in the ring for his second fight of the calendar year?
Win or lose, we’ve taken a look at four possible opponents for his next bout…
Tyson Fury
Who else? Let’s not beat about the bush here, it’s the fight everyone wants to see! The Gypsy King’s last bout took place in April when knocking out Dillian Whyte to remain unbeaten and keep possession of the the WBC belt. He has since claimed to be in retirement but the prospect of an all-British scrap for all the heavyweight titles could be enough to tempt Fury back into the ring.
Daniel Dubois
A different all-British bout could be on the agenda as Londoner Dubois is the WBA’s mandatory challenger. The 24-year-old could be in line to face the winner of Usyk v Joshua 2 if the undisputed bout with Fury fails to come to fruition.
Joe Joyce
The 2016 Olympic Games silver medalist would emerge as the WBO mandatory challenger if he defeats Joseph Parker next month, which could set up a title clash if Joshua gets the better of Usyk.
Dillian Whyte
A rematch with The Body Snatcher could prove lucrative on the domestic scene if Joshua suffers a second defeat to Usyk. The pair fought at amateur level in 2009 with Whyte coming out on top before Joshua won their grudge match for the vacant British heavyweight crown six years later.
