Despite being ahead on nearly everyone who was watching scorecards, Tyson Fury emerged from his heavyweight title scrap against Deontay Wilder with a draw.
People didn’t know what to expect from the bout beforehand, as there were question marks over how the Gypsy King would deal with the much-vaunted power of Wilder after a three-year absence from the top level of the sport. Meanwhile on the flip side, boxing brains felt that Fury would simply have too much class for the Bronze Bomber.
What ensued at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles was one of the most entertaining fights at heavyweight for a while and the drama was up there with Anthony Joshua’s classic with Wladimir Klitschko last year.
Fury hauled his huge frame off the canvas twice, including a devastating blow in the 12th, to claim a draw with the WBC champion. However, many felt the Brit had the better of his American foe and should have been awarded the victory.
There was no sign of disappointment for Fury after it all though, and he even had the press room bouncing afterwards as he belted out the Don McLean showstopper American Pie at the end of his post-fight press conference.
