Boxing great Oscar De La Hoya has joined the seemingly never ending queue of fighters in both MMA and now boxing seeking a crack at Conor McGregor.
De La Hoya, who hasn’t stepped inside a ring in nearly nine years, revealed yesterday on DashRadio that he’d been “secretly training” and went onto boast that he “could take out Conor McGregor in two rounds”.
The UFC Lightweight champion has been out of action since losing his mega-bout with Floyd Mayweather in August and looked for all the world to be heading back to the octagon against interim UFC Lightweight titleholder Tony Ferguson before the year’s end.

However, a high-profile incident at Bellator 187 in his home city of Dublin last weekend – which saw McGregor leap into the cage, confront referee Marc Goddard and allegedly slap an official – has put that date in question. So maybe a return to the sweet science could be a more preferable move to the MMA kingpin.
After all we know how much the Notorious one loves “promoter money” and amazingly – despite the fact that De La Hoya holds 39 victories inside a boxing ring – McGregor is an 8/13 favourite for a potential bout with the Mexican.
The Golden Boy Promotions chief comes in as an outside 13/10, while traders don’t believe he’ll get off the stool with his prophecy to take out McGregor inside two rounds and make it a massive 60/1.
Even though the Irishman is 0-1 in boxing, he can be grabbed at 6/4 to end the potential dust-up by KO – with De La Hoya is a 5/1 gamble to send McGregor to the canvas.
One thing’s for sure, Conor McGregor will never be short of an offer to duke it out!
