The World Bantamweight Champion won't be winning gold at Rio...
But we've paid out on Conlan winning gold anyway after a VERY controversial decision by the judges
Paddy Power have today paid out on Belfast boxer Michael Conlan winning his bout, a medal and a gold medal after the World Champion was robbed of victory against Russia’s Vladimir Nikitin.
Conlan looked to have dominated the bout but was left devastated when he was adjudged to have lost both the first and final round in the eyes of all three judges.
Unsurprisingly, Conlan himself was not a happy chappy. Here was his reaction on RTE 2 immediately after the bout…

The move comes on the back of an earlier justice payout from the bookie after Kazakhstan’s Vassily Levit was denied a clear victory in the heavyweight final over another Russian Evgeny Tishchenko.
Paddy Power, a spokesperson for Paddy Power, said ‘The whole thing stinks, absolutely stinks, and our heart goes out to Michael Conlan after he was robbed of victory. The entire country was behind Michael and as you might imagine we took plenty of bets from patriotic punters who were backing him to do the business and it’s only fair that we pay out on him as the winner.’
