Sunday NBA returns after the All-Star break and European fans are treated to a real spectacle as one of America’s most storied rivalries takes place in the early window with the New York Knicks travelling to Boston to take on the Celtics.
Even aside from the historic aspects to this game this actually has important ramifications for the rest of the season. The Knicks are three games back of the Celtics and although catching the Cavaliers might be asking too much there is a real chance of taking the second seed if they can find form in the run-in.
Elsewhere tonight, there are a couple of interesting shoot-outs in the East and West with play-off implications. Read on to find out what our basketball guru, Peter Sharland, is tipping.

6:10pm New York Knicks @ Boston Celtics
Jayson Tatum, Over 32.5 total rebounds + assists
Payton Pritchard, Over 11.5 points
Part of the reason that the Cavs might be too far for Knicks to catch is that Cleveland hammered New York on Friday evening, handing Tom Thibodeau his worst loss of his tenure in New York. The Knicks will have to bounce back, but they’ll find it tough in Boston.
Don’t forget that the Celtics have won six of the past seven meetings between these two, and we like them to make it seven out of eight here. Jayson Tatum’s rebounds and assists bet really intrigues us, it’s set at 13.5 which he comfortably reached in the two games either side of the break.
Elsewhere, this column’s love of Payton Pritchard is well documented, and he’s gone over 20 points in three of his last five so we like his over here.
8:45pm Dallas Mavericks @ Golden State Warriors
Kyrie Irving, Over 28.5 points
Steph Curry 20+ Points
Lot of storylines in this one. Jimmy Butler’s home debut for Golden State, another return to the Bay for Klay Thompson and we’ll get Andre Iguodola’s jersey being retired as well to top it off. The Mavs, of course, will be without Anthony Davis for this one, which is something to keep in mind, as is the fact that just before the break, they beat Golden State without their new big man.
Since Luka Doncic was traded to the Lakers, Kyrie Irving has really been relishing the added responsibility for Dallas. His points line for this one is set at 28.5, a figure he has gone over in each of his last three matches. One of those games includes the win over Golden State in Texas when he scored 42. The Mavs may not take the win, but Irving will be the star of their show once more.
For the Warriors we’re sticking with a safe bet on Curry. They’ve been a bit all over the shop in recent weeks in terms of bets, so no need to risk it in this bet builder.
11:10pm Miami Heat @ Milwaukee Bucks
Under 221 points
The Bucks have won two straight coming out of the break and will have Indiana, currently fourth in the East, firmly in their sights as they seek a top-four finish. Miami are five behind Milwaukee and the Pacers but will feel they deserve to be in the conversation for the fourth seed and will at least be desperate to avoid the play-in. This one has all the promise of a fascinating match-up.
The Points line is set at 221 for this one. With both Giannis Antetokoumpo and Damian Lillard listed as probable Miami struggling to score recently this feels like a game that will be a battle for the points and as such we feel very comfortable going for the under here.
