NBA Tips: Our 14/1 punt on Saturday’s games includes Spurs v Pacers in Paris

Our tipster Peter Sharland takes in game two of the NBA's Paris trip in his Saturday evening punt

Welcome back to your weekly NBA tips, this time coming to you on a Saturday! It’s the second of the two Paris Games today and the NBA has shifted the early window games to align.

We are barrelling along towards the trade deadline in the first week of February and then the All-Star game after that. It seems that we say this every week, but we really still are waiting for things to heat up in this regard.

And yes, pun intended, is Jimmy Butler the domino that needs to fall for the action to really kick off?

For now, European fans have a wonderful early window to sink their teeth into, read on to see what we’re tipping.

Saturday’s NBA tips

5pm Indiana Pacers @ San Antonio Spurs
Victor Wembanyama – Over 28.5 points
Devin Russell – Over 17.5 points

8pm Minnesota Timberwolves @ Memphis Grizzlies
Nikola Jokic to record a Triple Double
Over 228 Total Points

10:30pm Boston Celtics @ Dallas Mavericks
Kyrie Irving to record 20+ points

5pm – Indiana Pacers @ San Antonio Spurs

Victor Wembanyama – Over Total Points

Devin Vassell – Total Points Over

Honestly watching Wemby balling out in Paris in the first game against the Pacers a couple of days ago was one of those moments that just filled you with so much joy. The crowd was rocking, Wemby was rocking, we were all rocking! It was one of those magical moments that makes you just delighted to be a fan.

And frankly we expect something similar in the second game later today. The Pacers had absolutely no answer for the Spurs big man and with the status of Tyrese Haliburton still up in the air it feels as if it might be another tough night for Indiana.

For that reason we’re also backing Devin Vassell to get to his over as well.

8pm – Denver Nuggets @ Minnesota Timberwolves

Nikola Jokic to record a Triple Double

Over 228 Total Points

This is a fascinating clash. In many ways it is the typical case of unstoppable force meets immoveable object. The Nuggets have been rolling recently, averaging over 130 points per game across their last four games. By contrast the Wolves have limited their opponents to 111.5 points per game.

However, while the Nuggets are 4-0 over that stretch, Minnesota are 2-2, simply because they cannot get their offense going at all. Meanwhile on the Nuggets side Nikola Jokic is practically an offense all unto himself, with the Serbian superstar AVERAGING a Triple Double this season.

Averaging!

Despite the strength of the Wolves’ D we like Jokic to continue his run of five straight TDs and for a similar reason we think the Nuggets will draw Minnesota into a more attacking game, so we’re going with the over for the Total Points in this one too.

10:30pm – Boston Celtics @ Dallas Mavericks

Live on TNT Sports 1

Kyrie Irving to record 20+ points

The Mavericks are a weird team. Did you know that of the eight losses suffered by the Oklahoma City Thunder this season (you know, probably the best team in the league) three of them are to the Mavericks. Of those three wins by the Mavericks, star guard Luka Doncic played in NONE of them. Look at this, this is the last seven games for Dallas. Loss to Denver, loss to Denver, loss to New Orleans, BEAT OKC, loss to Charlotte, loss to Minnesota and BEAT OKC. What is this black magic?

Normally that would put us firmly in the bet against them but it’s not as if the Celtics have pulling up trees recently. Boston is 3-3 over its last six and is coming into this one off the back of a beat down by LeBron James and the Lakers. For that reason and because Doncic remains out injured, we’re going with a safe bet here for Kyrie Irving to get over 20 points in the late window to bring us home.
