NBA tips this week come to you one day later due to the number of games being played on Martin Luther King Day. As ever with the federal holiday there is a full slate of games and again because it’s a holiday that means they are all in a nice window for European fans.
We haven’t seen quite the flurry of deals in early January that we might have expected to see and it seems clear that a lot of teams cannot figure out whether they should be buyers or sellers. Regardless with so little time between now and the trade deadline these games mean a lot as they could have a massive say on how teams view the rest of their season.

7:10pm – Detroit Pistons @ Houston Rockets
Jalen Green Over 23.5 points
The Rockets are getting healthier and their form is picking up after a rough period and key to that run has been Jalen Green. It seems crazy to think that we’re still just a month or so removed from the internet being awash with those calling for the guard to be traded. Green’s been a on tear recently so it’s a bit of a surprise that his over for this one is set at a nice 23.5, something he’s done in his last seven games.
7:40pm – Minnesota Timberwolves @ Memphis Grizzlies
Total Points: Over 235
These two actually played last weekend and combined for 252 points, well over the Total Points figure for this game of 235 points. In fact, including that game the Grizzlies’ past four matches have all gone over this figure. The Timberwolves’ last game against the Cavaliers is the only one of their recent games to hit the over (barring the last clash with the Grizzlies) but they have shown recently the propensity to score big so we like these chances here.
8:10pm – Atlanta Hawks @ New York Knicks
Trae Young Over 34.5 Points + Assists
The Hawks are getting frisky. Atlanta beating Boston in overtime has taken them up to sixth in the East as part of a run where they’ve won four of their past five. Key to that run, as he always is, has been Young, who has notched up a combined 39 points and assists against the defending champions. His over/under for this figure is 34.5 for this game which is something he’s done in three of his last four. With the Knicks potentially missing Karl-Anthony Towns they might have other problems to worry about, leaving the door open for Young. And we all know how fun things get when Trae Young plays a game of basketball in the state of New York.
8:40pm – Phoenix Suns @ Cleveland Cavaliers
Devin Booker Over 27.5 Points
Speaking of frisky the Suns are starting to heat up having won five of their last six, only dropping a game to the aforementioned Hawks. Like the Hawks their star man over this run has been a guard, Devin Booker, and like the Hawks their opponents have big man injury worries, with Evan Mobley ruled out of this one.
Booker has gone over 30 in each of his past five games and his over/under for this one is set a nice 27.5, something he should have no issues with even with the Cavs’ strong defensive rating this season.
